Supporting Your Pelvic Floor

Your pelvic floor is super important, especially during pregnancy and birth. Here are some things to know:
🤰🏼
  • There are several different exercises that can help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Kegels, squats, and walking are a few.
  • A strong pelvic floor can help your baby keep his/her chin tucked down when entering the birth canal, ensuring that the smallest part of the head is coming through first.
  • During pushing, it is helpful to be able to completely relax those muscles.
  • Your midwife may use her hand to provide support for your pelvic floor while baby is crowning.
  • Your pelvic floor muscles are connected to so many other muscles throughout your core. These muscles all work together and in balance to help you function properly.
  • After having your baby, you should see a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor therapy if you are concerned or having any issues, such as incontinence, prolapse, pain during intercourse, etc. They are amazing providers who can help!
🤰🏼
I teach a wonderful kegel program in my Comprehensive Class. It was developed by an experienced physical therapist.

It can be difficult to remember to exercise your pelvic floor! What are some things you do to remember?
